October is a special month for our Crianza’a from Toro and Ribera del Duero The Munia Crianza from Toro scored 92 points, while Ribera’s ValSotillo Crianza was awarded 89 points and deemed a “Best Buy”.
The Viñaguareña cellar, which is nestled in the golden mile stretch of the D.O. Toro creates the impressive line of 5 Munia’s, all of 100% Tinta de Toro. The winery is well respected as “one of the appellation’s new stars” according to Wines & Spirits (October, 2009).
Wines & Spirits: This 2005 Munia Crianza is remarkably elegant (given the often rustic style of Toro's wines), full of juicy flavors of strawberries framed by tense tannins and a light touch of spice. The underlying acidity seems to build on that spice, and it will increase the wine's complexity over the next five to six years.
Ismael Arroyo is the proud maker of ValSotillo Crianza, which was considered a “Best Buy” by Wines & Spirits, after scoring 89 points. For a more sophisticated expeience, check out the ValSotillo Gran Reserva 1996.
Wines & Spirits: A crianza of unusual concentration and power, this has inky scents of ripe black fruit saturating its substantial body. The black pepper tannins will accompany lamb stew.
